“A nuclear power plant can explode like a megaton weapon, especially if it gets hit by a weapon.” Statement made by a lecturer at a public educational meeting.
NUCLEAR WAR FACT: It is impossible to get a nuclear explosion out of a nuclear power plant.
Although nuclear power plants accumulate enormous amounts of fission products, which are much greater than that of a nuclear weapon, it is impossible to get a nuclear explosion out of a nuclear power plant. There would be as much of a chance of getting a nuclear explosion out of a refrigerator. Power plants are targets for weapons, but they are not necessarily appropriate targets for a nuclear warhead. If deadly fallout arrives around the power plants, the workers will have to take shelter and the plant will have to be shut down. The result is still the same to the enemy; with no electricity, there are no working traffic lights, no water, no toilet, no light, no heat, and no way of getting fuel out of the underground tanks.
